Here's a little more info about Robert Spear. In 1806 he became a magistrate(Justice of the Peace), and probably was acting in that capacity when he performed the marriage of Joseph Sprout and Elizabeth Herr in 1814. Also I notice some mentions of Sprouts in Fayette County. Fayette County in 1783 was formed from Westmoreland County, which was formed from Bedford County in 1773. There is a German Township in Fayette county. Perhaps named from a high population of Germans at that time. All of southwest Pa. was also claimed by Virginia. Virginia also made land grants in that area. I know there was a settlement of Germans on Dunkard Creek and another near what is now Manor, Pa. as early as 1760.Were the SproUt-SproAtnames German?
