I am descended from Joseph sproUt born 1818, died 1872. He lived near Landisville and left a will and a very small estate, which was divided among his 3 sons and one daughter. They always spelled the name sproUt, and that's the way the gravestones are marked. I haven't been able to prove any connection between Joseph of Landisville and your Joseph of Mt. Joy. I first started digging into the Sprouts because my wife is descended from Vance-Cook-Marquis of Donegal Springs Presbyterian Church at Mt. Joy. I had always heard a lot of legends, and started digging. As I expected there was no foundation, people state fiction as fact. Joseph of Landisville was a farm laborer, who among other things did blacksmith work. Like most people of those days they did a lot of things to survive. He worked on the Kauffmann farm, and was given a small piece of land. His estate amounted to 2 1/2 acres and a small house and blacksmith shop. The house is still in use today.Do you live anywhere near Lancaster county?
