This note actually come from Bill Laubert, who was not able to post a reply for some technical reason and sent me his response privately.I am posting this to generate more responses. Please respond to this note as well as to my own.
You have stumbled upon one of the great mysteries is the Spurgeon Family.I have information from two sources that show the same discrepancy.A lady named Joyce Glover from Anna, IL (who cites SPURGEON SEARCHINGS and SPURGEON QUARTERLY--I am only familiar with the Quarterly) says that the woman was named Jane Sellars or Welborn and was born20 June 1736 in Chatham Co. NC.
From a privately printe book titled DESCENDANTS OF JOHN AND OLIVIA SPURGEON by Mervin Spurgeon of Rochester, IL and Janice Spurgeon of St. James, MO--it states emphatically (spell?) that her name was Mary Jane Sellers.I am partial to the "Decendants" book--maybe because my mother was one of the 23 sources used to compile the book (SPURGEON QUARTERLY was one as well.)That's what I have.I would be interested in hearing what you gather from others who see your posting.
