Joseph Stadler (Staddler), possibly born in Austria, perhaps Tachau, and possibly died in Iowa.Uncertain whether he and his wife came to the US; I think not.He may have been a mill owner.
Married Anna (?) Unknown, who reportedly died at 84, in 1890, possibly in Iowa.
The family name has been spelled in various notes and records "Staddler," with the first "d" underlined. It`s possible also that the "a" is an "o", thus" Stoddler. Some handwritten family trees of unknown origin show the Joseph came from Stuutgart. The word/name"Bererksgericht" (or similar, handwriting hard to read), also appears in connection with Joseph Staddler.
As far as I know Joseph and Anna Stad(d)ler had at least 4 children:
1.A boy, first name unknown, but he had a son Frank Staddler/Stadler, who at some time lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and possibly a daughter, name unknown, possibly born in Tauchau.
2.Barbara Stadler, possibly born in Tachau (then known as Bohemia, now Czechoslovakia; could also be called Techov; birthplace has also been given as Ausria, Austro-Hungarian Empire).Married Franz Thurn (b. 1838).Franz had 4 childen by Barbara Stadler, Joseph (Joe), 1865-1952, Anton (Tony) 1868-1892, Anna Brunkhorst 1871-1954 and a baby in 1874, that died when Barbara died of childbirth fever.
3.Anna Margareta (Margaret Anna?; also called Maggie) Stadler, born Aug. 22, 1848, (birthdate also given as 1852) in Tachau (then known as Bohemia, now Czechoslovakia; could also be called Techov; birthplace has also been given as Ausria, Austro-Hungarian Empire).Came to US at age 18 (c. 1866-70). Married John / Johan Eligius Schmid(t) / Smith April 17, 1874.They had 2 children, Oscar Otto Smith and Margaret (Maggie) Evans.Died 12 Feb. 1907, in Coffins Grove, Delaware Co. Iowa, buried in Catholic cemetery in Masonville, Iowa, where her husband was also buried.
3.Josepha(?) Stadler, apparently born where her sisters were, in Tachau, and is thought to have come to the US along with her two sisters, Anna Margareta and Barbara.Married John Ullman (also spelled Ulman, Ulmann).According to handwritten family tree, they had 6 children, according to 1880 US Census (Elk, Clayton Co, Iowa), they had 7:Frederick (Fred), b. 1860, Austria; Joseph (Joe),b. 1864, Austria; Frank, b. 1866, Austria;George b, 1868, Austria; John, Jr., b. 1871, Iowa; Maggie, b. 1871, Iowa; and apparently another daughter, Anne who appears on the family tree. The son Frank does not, but does appear in 1880 US Census
I have photos captioned "George Ullman and wife, 1933, Douglas, Wyoming," and "G. Ullman and wife and stepdaughter and step-granddaughter."
It would be great to know more for certain about Joseph and wife, what was the real last name, and wife's name, where they came from, their ancestors, and so on..Would appreciate hearing from any descendants of any of these people.
