There was a Richard Stignor listed in the vestry book of Petsworth Parish, Gloucester Co., VA. The record does not say in what capacity. The register appears to cover the years 1677-1793.All of the names listed appear to be of English origin: Buckner, Lee, Smith, Coleman, Thornton, Read, Washington, Wyatt, Taliaferro, Dabney, etc. The "Stignor" may be a variant of an English name. I hardly think our German Stagner would fall into this group. Incidentally, I am also a Prather through the Stagner line.
