Wanda, I am very agreeable to changing my information when I or others are proven wrong with the info. I/they have.So far, you have not shown me adequate proof, to change my mind. I ask you to also be agreeable to changing your mind or looking anew at the information. One thing for sure, we are cousins, distant but cousins.
You will be surprised at how many females back then were married by the time they were 14-15, especially in the south. My grandmother was only 14 when she married my grandpa on his 21st birthday. All that was required was that her parent/guardian signed the consent form. And this was in 1904! (Born Jul 4, 1890, m. Dec. 18. 1904.)
Depending upon the state, time period, and situation, a child could be considered as an adult as early as age 14 such as witnessing a will, deed, selecting a guardian, etc. Many 17-18 yrs old males became their younger siblings guardian. It definitely wasn't like it is today with foster care, etc. These young males had to grow up fast, and become head of households, when they lost their father or both parents. The same with the girls, they grew up fast. The sooner they got married that meant one less mouth to feed. The men wanted a nice, young, stong girl who could provide him with many children. If she died, he usually remarried very quickly to an even younger woman who would give him more children, preferably sons, and raise his children from his first marriage. And so many times he remarried a younger sister of his first wife.
In my other lines when a person was granted guardianship, this individual had to file with the court each year, giving a description of expenses, etc. for the previous year.If a child reached majority that year, they could either request a new guardian or continue with the current guardian. The guardian, himself, could petition the court to be removed as guardian. The same with the persons who gave security, they could petition the court to remove them as security.
Where are those records for over a 10-13 yr period of time?Strange that none surfaced until 1830, approx. 13 yrs or more after the death of Lydia's husband? Her son, James Norris Stallings having died just about that time, and left three children two of them minors, is when these records start showing up.
Lydia only had 5 children underage in 1820, 4 sons and 1 dtr.Her other children were adults! 2 were married.
Is this correct?Your ancestor was Moses Stallings, his father, Elias Stallings married to Mary House & died in Bertie Co. NC ca 1762/63?And his father was Elias Stallings ca 1660-1749?
Your Moses Stallings had siblings John, Jesse, Josiah, Mary, Margaret, and Susanna?
Your line is:Nicholas abt 1620, Elias abt. 1660, Elias abt?, Moses b.? then who?
My line: Nicholas, abt. 1620, Nicholas Stallings, Jr. abt 1656, Elias Sr. b. abt 1700, Kader b.aft 1746;*** Moses b. abt 1803, Lydia (Chandler)b. Apr 17, 1828, Duke William Chandler,Jan 5, 1851, Elzia Birdie Chandler (Payton),Jul 4, 1890 Geneva Payton (Ford), Jul 12, 1914, me.
To me, it seems that Kader Stallings was born later than 1746, from a second wife of Elias Stallings and not Elizabeth Rountree as she was deceased by Dec. 1,1746 when her father, Thomas Rountree mentionedin his will that his dtr. Elizabeth Stallings was deceased and named her 4 children Jacob, Elias, John and Elizabeth Stallings.
Elias Stallings, Sr. named his children in his will, which includes Kader and also tends to prove there was more than one wife, as there were a bunch of children named.
There was a Cader Stallings who was in the War of 1812-1815.I do believe this one died in the war or shortly afterwards. He could have been the son of Reuben Stallings (my Kader's uncle) or could be Lydia's husband.
This Cader Stallings was in a GA militia:
War of 1812 Service Records
about Cader Stallings
Name: Cader Stallings
Company: BRODNAX'S DETACHMENT, GEORGIA MILITIA.
Rank - Induction: PRIVATE
Looking at Elias Stallings, Sr.'s will, he names childen, but does not name son Jacob.Elizabeth Rountree's father names his deceased dtr. Elizabeth Stallings, children as Jacob, John, Elias and Elizabeth. To me, this shows all the other children were from a different wife or wives.
Then, in Elias Sr's son, Luke's will(dated 1798) he names part of his siblings but doesn't name the others.Ones not named were Jacob, Elias, Elizabeth, and Cader. The others were either named or their part was left to their children. As far as I know Jacob, Elias, Elizabeth and Cader were alive, I don't have death dates for Jacob, Elias and Elizabeth. Jacob allegedly married Susannah Arnold, whether they had children I don't know.Elias was married may have died in 1795 but had a houseful of children.Elizabeth was married to John Web/Webb and more likely than not, she had children.
Had there been a falling out amongst the siblings? Were these the siblings who had moved away, out of sight, out of mind?
