I would like to make contact with others who are researching the FOSTER name in Barbados. Foster's were among some of the early settlers in Barbados during the 1600's.
My direct line goes back to a Samuel James FOSTER bap: 19 Dec 1825 the son of Samuel FOSTER and Elizabeth ..?.. As many of the records are missing prior to this date, I have not been able to link earlier families to my Samuel.
On 10th Jan 1856, Samuel James married Catharine Ann KING at St. George's Parish Church and together they had eight children. This family lived at The Farm Plantation in St. George (which Samuel J. managed) up until 1882 when Catharine died.
Their children were:- 1. Clement Allan (who died 3 Yrs old) 1857-1860 2. Walter Reynold 1859-1915 (married Constance Cromartie LEACOCK 1885 Barbados - my great-grandparents) 3. Emma Burton (died infant 5 days old) 1860-1860 4. Annie Constance 1861-..?.. (married George Ernest KING 1882 Barbados) 5. Samuel Clement 1862-1936 (married Gertrude O'RIORDAN 1884 Barbados) 6. Allan Percy 1864-..?.. (married Alice KITCHIN 1891 Barbados) 7. Arnold Evans 1866-1933 (married Maria Constance BARROW 1887. This family emigrated to New York, U.S.A.) 8. Rupert Darcy 1868-..?.. (married Susie Eleanor BOYCE 1910 Barbados)
Descendants of the above families are now scattered all over the world -- GUYANA, U.S.A., CANADA, ENGLAND, NEW ZEALAND. Many of them still live in BARBADOS. One of the earlier families settled near the Ashley River, SOUTH CAROLINA during the 1670's.
If anyone is researching a family who may have had or still has FOSTER/FORSTER connections in Barbados, I would be interested in hearing from you.
Many thanks for reading this.
