Jesse Smith Stampley (1832-1870) was a gg-grandson of Jacob Stampley, sr.
Jesse served in the 12th MS Infantry Reg't, Co. B, known as the "Satartia Rifles" along with brothers Jefferson Lafayette (1834-KIA 2 Jul 1862 at Savage's Station, VA...aka, Peach Orchard; John L. (1833-1870); Richard (1839-1895)and Leonidas Stampley (1841-1883).Their uniforms consisted of nine-button frock coats with dark collar trim, shoulder straps, and cuffs.Pants and hats were plain gray.
Jesse Smith Stampley and his brothers enlisted at Corinth, MS in May 1861.Jesse was wounded between 26 Jun and 1 Jul 1862 during 'engagements before Richmond' also known as the "Seven Days' Battles."
The father of Jesse Smith was Richard Stampley (5 May 1800 Jefferson Co.,MS - 27 May 1856 Yazoo Co., MS) and his mother was Abigail Smith (12 Oct 1801-7 Feb 1862).Richard was a son of John Stampley who married Martha (Phoebe) Curtis, dau. of Richard Curtis.
