The diary of James Mallory of Talladega County was published by the University of Alabama Press as a book titled Fear God and Walk Humbly.The following entries related to Elijah and Elizabeth Stamps.
On December 23, 1868 he writes "Our near and much esteemed neighbours, Captn. Stamps and his wife are very ill"
The following day, December 24, 1868 he writes "Our neighbours both died today."
On December 25, 1868, he enters into his diary, "The old people were buried in the same grave, as in life they lived so in death they were not divided.they had been married sixty years."
The footnote for the entry states, "Elijah Stamps, who was eighty-six years old, and his wife, Elizabeth, both died on December 24, 1868.They were buried in the same grave. Luttrell, Early Tombstone Records, 100"
