William Bryant Stamps, born about 1879 probably in Burleson Co. Texas; died probably 1930 in St. Johns, Apache Co., Arizona.
I’m looking for any and all information on William Bryant Stamps, who was the son of William S. Stamps. William Bryant Stamps married Eva I. Cregg. Both William and Eva (Cregg) Stamps are buried in St. Johns Cemetery, St. Johns, Apache Co., Arizona.
William S. Stamps was the son of William Henry Stamps and Nancy Elvira Heslep. William S. Stamps was born about 1850 probably in Hinds Co., Mississippi. The 1880 Census for Runnels Co., Texas lists William and his mother Elvira living with his brother-in-law Thomas Chriesman (Thomas Francis "Frank" Chriesman) and his sister, Viola L. Stamps Chriesman. William S. Stamps is listed as married on this census. There is a “(Mrs.) B. S. Stamps found living with the family of T. F. Davidson as found on the 1880 Census for Burleson Co., Texas. “B.S. Stamps” is listed as a married 20 year old born in Alabama with a son “William Stamps” age 2 born in Texas. “B. S. Stamps” might be William S. Stamps’ first wife. She is listed as being the step daughter of T. F. Davidson and wife Mary.
I have a letter dated 8 June 1902 written by my g-g-grandmother that mentions “Mr. and Mrs. Will Stamps who were living outside Sherwood, Irion Co., Texas at this time.
On December 5, 1882, William married Mary "Mollie" E. Hill. Mollie and William would have 4 daughters: Elma, Ada, Eunice and Bernice. Mollie would die in 1902 while the Stamps lived in Irion County, Texas. Mollie's half-sister, Nannie D. Hill, would care for the children after Mollie died. The family moved into New Mexico and on December 10, 1904, William and Nannie would marry. June 2, 1905, Nannie (Hill) Stamps would die in childbirth along with her child.
Thanks for all your help! Sincerely, Greg, firstname.lastname@example.org
