I was reading about the Stancills on GenForum . I was one of the people who helped with the Osborne Diarys. I have been trying to piece my Stancill line together & wanted to know if anyone could possibly help. I'm just using info I found in & about the Mecklenburg Co.,NC area. Most is guess work & thoughts. I hope that someone might be able to help with my guess work.
In the diary ( 2nd one) it stated that Jesse Stansill was the father of Sarah Osborn. John Stansill lived in one of John Osbornes houses.I'm assuming that John was Jesse's brother? Here are my figurings please tell me what you think. Most is from Census records etc....
Jesse Stansill & wife were on the 1790 census in Mecklenburg Co., NC , it showed 1 male (Jesse) & 4 females ( wife& 2 daughters, one of which would be Sarah born abt. 1785)
On the 1800 census it showed Jesse to be between ages 26 - 45 & his wife the same, It also showed that they had 3 sons under 10 yrs of age, 1 daughter under 10, 1 daughter 10-16 (possibly Sarah) 1 daughter 16-26 yrs of age
On the 1810 census it showed Jesse still to be between the ages of 26 - 45 & wife the same. There were no other females living in the house, but there were still 5 sons still living there. 1 age 16-26, 2 ages between 10 - 16 & 2 under 10.
On the 1820 census both Jesse & wife were over 45 with one boy age 10 - 16 still at home.
Could not find Jesse on the 1830 census & not knowing his wifes name???? Here are my assumptions
Jesse Stansill & wife born abt. 1760/1770 NC daughterb. abt 1783/84 daughterb. abt. 1785 ( Sarah who married John Osborn/e) daughterb. after 1790 ( under 10 in 1800) sonb after 1790 ( under 10 in 1800)(?John born abt 1792) sonb. after 1790 ( under 10 in 1800) sonb. after 1790 ( under 10 1800) ?Archibald b. abt 1799) sonb. after 1800 & uner 10 in 1810 sonb. after 1800 & under 10 in 1810
Can you fill in any of the blanks? Do you happen to knowwho Jesse's wife was?
Also here is a few more bits of info I found Sept.25,1791 Thomas Lawson sells land to Jesse Stansell 94 acres Oct. 28,1808 Jesse Stansill ordered to sell land to satisfy 2 judgements against him July 29, 1809 Jesse Stansill found guilty, ordered to public whipping post to recieve 5 lashes to his bare back Jan. 25, 1810 Jesse Stansill charged for petit Larceny & expense of his confinement in the Cabarrus Co Jail & the move to Charlottefor trial.
I'm assuming this is the same Jesse Stansill listed above in the census records. All info found in Mecklenburg co NC. I welcome all guess work >>GRIN<
