One branch of the Standridges came from South Carolina to Arkansas via Georgia (and possibly other stops). Some family members arrived in AR as late as 1889, although I uderstand that others came much earlier. This branch settled in southern AR, in and around Polk County.
Another branch came from South Carolina to northern AR (Carroll, Newton, & Pope Counties)via many other stops. This branch was definitely established in AR by 1832.
As far as I know, these two closely-related branches never associated much after they moved to AR. I have heard that most of the southern AR branch supported the Confederacy. If true, this may account for the split, because the northern AR branch were definitely Unionists
You didn't say, but I assume from your Mount Ida connection that your people are the southern AR branch. I don't have much info on them, as I came from the northern branch. I do know that their line included a Samuel Standridge, Jr. (abt 1818-1875)BUT (1) I don't know that his middle name was James (2) I have his two known wives listed as Kiziah Hedding and Nancy ______, and (3) I don't know for sure that he moved to Arkansas when his kin did.
IF this is your Samuel, his father Samuel Sr.(abt 1785-3/3/1873) married Rebecca _____. His father James, Jr.(1755 - ?) married Marry (Polly) Wallace. He was born in Maryland, and was a Revolutionary War soldier. I have a little more (birthplaces, siblings names, etc.) but your best bet for that branch is probably R.P. Baker, 6525 Magnolia Drive, Mabelvale, AR 72103. I understand that Mr. Baker is editor of the Standridge Family Association Newsletter "Standridge Kith and Kin". Another source I've seen quoted is Francis Jones, Family Historian, 108 St Leo Drive, Cahokia, IL 62206.
Coincidentally (?), there were a Samuel James Standridge,Sr.(1806 - ?) and Samuel James Standridge, Jr. (1841 -1913) in the northern AR branch about the same time. But I don't know that either of them had a son Steven. And it was Samuel, Sr.'s brother Lemuel who was married to a Sarah Margaret (Her maiden name is uncertain; given by various sources as Blevins, Blair, and Keener/Kiner). Much more available on this line.
