Dear Clare, As a fellow Staveley researcher, let me say how much I appreciate your website.Beautifully done, and great content!
I used your civil registration index to track down four deaths of Staveleys from Skirlaugh. The certificates are expensive to obtain, but luckily, all four pertain to my branch of the family (which begins with brothers Robert and John Staveley who were born circa 1765).
I'd be happy to send you copies of the certificates if you want them.
Here's who I found:
John Staveley, male, age 71, occupation Smith, died 1/15/1841 at South Skirlaugh, of asthma, as reported by Mary Pickering, who was present at the death.
Miles Staveley, male, age 9 1/2, son of John Staveley the Shoemaker, died 9/10/1844 at S. Skirlaugh, of richeola (?), as reported by Mary Burn, present at death.
Robert Staveley, male, age 77,Shoemaker, died 8/3/1842 at S. Skirlaugh, of gradual decay, as reported by Timothy Burn, present at death.
John Staveley, male, age 3, son of Robert Staveley the Blacksmith, died 12/6/1847 at Aldborough, as reported by Robert Staveley, present at death.
