This is a correction to my posting, dated May 8, 2005.That initial message reported that George Stedman served on the Lovling's Surveying Brig and on the Black Lake.Michael Steadman researched the ship records at the Archives in London in December 2005 and found that George, who was born in 1772 in Tenterden, Kent County, England, served on the Sloop Sorlings. The ship on which George reportedly died in 1804 was probably the Black Joke, but the Muster Book(s) were not found for the dates he would have served.Thank you, Michael, for your research and sharing this important information.
