I am descended from John Stebbins and Abigail Bartlett also - through their son, Samuel.I have not been working on the Stebbins family very long and have only a little information on this line. However, the sources that I used 1. Belchertown Congregational Church Records - Appendix D covers the Stebbins family, 2. Memoir of the Stebbins Family by Daniel Stebbins, and 3. Longmeadow Families do not include a daughter Rebecca.
The latter two sources (listed above) were published in NEHGS Registers many years ago. However, the primary focus of both is on John's brother Thomas and his family.
I'd be very interested in your source(s).
The list of children for John and Abigail that I found: 1. Samuel b 1658 2. Abigail b 9/1660 3. Thomas b 1662 4. Hannah b 7/8/1664 5. Mary b 9/10/1666 6. Sarah b 6/4/1668 7. Joseph (the date of birth I have is too close to Sarah) 8. Deborah b Mar 5 1670/71 9. Thankful
I would also like to know about the John Stebbins, Jr. who, with his family, was captured by Indians in the 1704 attack on Deerfield. As you can see, he is not included in the list of John and Abigail's children. But he is listed as a grandson of Rowland on a marker in Deerfield.I think in those days Jr. did not necessarily mean son of; it meant "the younger".Neither is there a John listed in Thomas' sons.Since John and Thomas were the only sons of Rowland, I expected to find this John listed.Maybe "grandson" was also a broader term - maybe great grandson would be a possibility. At any rate, I am still trying to tie up loose ends.
