The descendants of Deacon Edward Stebbins have long assumed that he was the Edward Stebbing who was chr. 24 Feb 1594/5 in Black Notley, Essex, England, the son of William Stebbing & Mary ___. Now that we have a copy of the will of Thomas Stebbing, father of William Stebbing, a problem has crept into that assumption.Thomas Stebbing, grandfather of Deacon Edward, had another son, Mark (brother of William Stebbing, obviously!), and Mark also had a son Edward, as witness some manorial records in Braintree, Essex, England. There seems to be no question that Thomas is the grandfather of Dea. Edward, but which son of Thomas's is our Edward's father? Anyone who wishes to help me ponder this puzzle may write me directly and I can provide the details of the assorted records.
