Aunt Elza has been working in the Newberry Co., Deed Abstracts and found that the Stell's and Hogg's had land holdings. Robert Stell and M. Malone served on the Petit Jury, witnessed land transactions and various sundry other items. Found Thomas Hogg and Martha Chandler. I told her we needed Thomas Hogg's will to see if he mentioned his grandchildren. Will keep the list posted on what she finds.
Aunt Elza also wishes to thank those who have shared so willingly the info on the STELL family, and took her line back as far as it did. Elza is 73 years old and if anyone wishes to contact her directly via snail mail, please email me for her address, she would love to hear from other Stells, especially those of Thomas J.
And speaking of Thomas J. Stell, Elza also found in a History of Stewart Co, letters from a Capt Jernigan, praising Thomas J. STILL/STEEL (spelled two different ways in the different letters) and a letter signed by THOMAS JOHNSON STELL. But other evidence also says JONES.
Maybe he really didn't know his middle name. Maybe it was really ROSEBUD, (as in Dick Van Dyke show.)
When Elza give me a copy of her findings, I will pass it on to the board.
