According to Peaked Mountain Presbyterian Church Records of Rockingham Co. VA, Thomas Stephenson married Elizabeth Logan on 25 DEC 1760.Many records refer to this Elizabeth as "Betty".Peaked Mountain Church was/is about 2 miles east of Harrisonburg, VA at the foot of Peaked Mountain.
Elizabeth Logan was daughter of David Logan and sister to Col Benjamin Logan, etal.Thomas & Elizabeth went to Lincoln Co. KY and obtained a 1000 acre Preemption in 1781 which was about 2 miles east of Logan's Fort.Logan's Fort was founded by Col. Benjamin Logan. The last records seen of this Thomas was when he appeared in court in Lincoln Co. in 1792 when he sold off this 1000 acres. It was sold in 6 parcels with two of them going to a Robert & a David Stephenson. The other 4 people were kin to Thomas, by marriage. (Archibald McKinney, Wm. Montgomery, James McClure Jr., John Robeson)The Robert Stephenson later married Elizabeth Whitley 28 May 1793, daughter of William Whitley, and moved to Madison and Limestone Co. ALA about 1800.David Stephenson married Betty Logan 09 Apr 1791.He died in Lincoln Co. and was the progenitor of the Stephenson/Vardeman line in the county.
Also, a John Stephenson had a homestead on Mill Creek about 1 mile south of the Peaked Mountain Church in Rockingham Co. VA.This John Stephenson imported himself, Sarah, and Mary from Ireland by way of PA in 1740.
"22nd May 1740, John Stephenson came into court and made oath that he imported himself Sarah and Mary Stephenson from Ireland to Philadelphia, and thence to this colony."Source - Augusta County Importation records. This John is thought to have been a brother of Thomas, David, William, & Robert who all imported from Ireland to Rockingham Co. VA in the 1739/40 time frame. They all homesteaded in the vicinity of Harrisonburg, VA.The above David married "Annos" and they went to the Turkey Creek area of York Co. SC about 1760.
From baptismal record of the Rev. John Craig of Rockingham Co. VA we see:
John Stephenson, Mary - Jun 16, 1745 John Stephenson, John - Jun 25, 1748 John Stephenson, Thomas - Jan 13, 1742
Mary, daughter of this John, married Archibald Huston and after Archibald died Mary and her son Daniel went to Lincoln Co. KY where Daniel obtained a land grant at present day Hustonvile KY.Daniel and Mary are reported to be buried on this homestead site in Lincoln Co. KY.
So, it's highly plausible that the above Thomas Stephenson that married Elizabeth Logan was a son of the John Stephenson (Mill Creek John) of Rockingham Co. VA.
No John or Thomas was listed in probate records of this John Stephenson (d.1777/78, Rockingham Co. VA).

However, it was not unusual for son's to be omitted from a will if they were at maturity at the time.No later records know to be of this younger John mentioned in the baptismal records above have been found.
I have considerable data on this clan of Stephenson's and am always happy to see more! firstname.lastname@example.org
