Not really. Think Joshua from England, butno Joshua (or Abraham) found in English records so far. I have contact with a few English Stepps/Stapps in various parts of England. No results yet. Some Americans think we are from a John who lived in Buckinghamshire , but no mention of Josh or Abraham in his will . He was apparently well-to-do so we get into the "snobbery factor" . It is all over the internet that this guy is our ancestor. BALONEY!!! Not proven. Our boy probably from a poor family. That is why he risked his life on a two month ocean voyage with a ship cramped with other English possessing a buffet of diseases and body odors. Poor family is probably why we can not find him in the records as the English did not give a fig about anybody unless they were upper class. Name originally from low countries. Many present day Stapps,Steppes in Holland and Belgium. Also Germany. Coat of arms listed in Rietstap book Armorial General is of Flemish origin. Red shield with three gold staffs. Motto is "Keep the Faith" (Baby??).
