Found the article in ''The Virginia Genealogist.'' January-March 1893, Volume 27, No. 1, page 109.The article reads...
''Thomas Step, Orange County.Removed to South Carolina about the commencement of the American Revolution in very indigent circumstances and universally repoted insolvent.Mrs. Agatha Sims, Albemerle, saw Thomas Step on his way to South Carolina. Her husband William Sims, deceased, paid some debts for him to prevent his being stopped on the road by his creditors.Mr. Sims' former wife was sister to Thomas Step.''
So, from this article, the one I was hoping for, does not prove Agatha's surname was Step[p]. [Capt.]William Sim's first wife was Annister Stepp. He married second Agatha.Trying to prove Agatha's maiden name was Stepp. Some believe it to be Sim[m]s.
I'm not sure about the word above ''repoted.''Don't know if this is a misspelling, or a word used in that day.
