On Nov 5, 1832, the following appeared in the Court Minutes of Madison Co., TN:James R. Stewart, Benjamin Lee and wife Partheny; Jesse L. Edney and wife Cynthia; and Joseph C. Steward, heirs of James Steward, deceased, were entitled to 800 acres located on Johnson Creek, Madison Co.; they petitioned to have same divided among themselves, which also included heirs of Elisha T. Steward and Anna Hughy.
Note: There was a correction placed in the record later amending the name of James Steward, deceased, to read Charles Stewart, deceased.)
Note: Cynthia Stewart married Jesse L. Edney. Parthenia Stewart married Benjamin Lee.
I am researching the James R. Stewart mentioned above. He appeared on the 1850 census of Madison Co., TN, but moved to Jackson Co., AL, by 1860.I have not been able to learn anything about the Charles Stewart who may have been his father.
