Hi, I am actually Karlene's sister. From Jacob Stifal's obit, we got the information that he had immigrated from Germany in 1827.In 1835 he was married in Lancaster PA.He and his wife moved to Ohio by 1836.The wife died in OHio in 1842.Jacob and the children moved to Crawford County, IL about 1852. Other records show that their first child was born in Portage County in 1836, the next in Muskingum county in 1838 and the last in Coshocton County in 1840.
Everything after they got to Il is pretty well verified as are the birth dates and places of the children. We have not been able to find any record of the wife's death or place of buriel in OHio.We have not been able to find any record of their marriage. We have not been able to find immigration records. We are not even sure of the wife's name.Family lore gives it as Rosina Haller, a daughter's death certificate lists Mary Holler.
According to the headstone in the cemetery, Jacob was born December 4, 1802.Most of the census records list the place of birth as Wuertenburg.
In written records, I have always looked at any Stie, Stei, Ste, Sti records. When internet searching I have been using Stifal, Stifle, and Stiffle. That is a good suggestion to try Stieffel.I have not been able to find him on any 1850 census so that would be another important place to check the Stieffel spelling.
Do you have any ideas who Jacob Stifal might be?
