From the Brunswick, Cumberland Co., Maine VR's I found the following entry... George STILOKEY and Henry STILOKEY, sons of Dr. Bathasaer and Lucey STILOKEY were born Feb. 26, 1790. Twins!
Also a Charlotte STILOKEY married a Spencer HINKLY on Dec. 3, 1807. You just never know how your family tree names are going to be spelled in the VR's. This was one I had never seen before. Dr. Balthazar Stilkey came to this country as a Hessian soldier. There is brief info on him in the History of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell by Wheeler and Wheeler which used to be online but I don't know if it still is or not. Dr. Stilkey lived near Cooks Corner in Brunswick and was called a surgeon but noted by the authors of the book to be somewhat of a "quack".
Balthazar after his military service was granted land in Nova Scotia, CAN but sold it and moved to Maine.
Interestingly I have the two sons of Dr. Stilkey listed as John George Stilkey b. Jan. 7, 1788 in Amsterdam, Holland. This entry in the Brunswick, ME VR's seems to indicate otherwise, Unless this another son George. Also the other son I have for Dr. Stilkey is Paul HENRY Stilkey b. c1790 in Amsterdam, Holland. My guess is that John George Stilkey born in 1788 Holland was the first son of Dr. Stilkey and that his 2nd set of sons and obvious Twins were these mentioned in the VR's of Brunswick since they are dated Feb. 1790...2 years after the birth of son John George Stilkey. At any rate...Dr. Balthazar Stilkey/Stilke/Stilokey however their name was spelled, was my 5th grt. grandfather. His son John George was my 4th grt. grandfather.
