I am pretty certain that your posting here and the one about Adairs and McElroys marrying into the Stitt family in County Down are related to the Kingdom of Mourne in South Down. I have been writing a Family History Book of teh Hanna's in the region and I see lots of Stitts in Ballykeel in the 1715 - 1800 timeframe and other information showing they were in Ballykeel which I can share with you.
My interest in this is that I am trying to establish the dates of the earliest Scotch-Irish migrants from the region to America. This Archibald Stitt was the earliest I could verify but I think there are/were others based on teh fact that the Port of Newry was close by and shipping lots of Scotch-Irish to America at this time.
I also wonder if Stitt is a Huguenot name because I am aware of other Huguenots settling in ireland in the 1690s called Annets who also settled in Mourne.
Do write and I wills end you what I have. There are about 5 Ballkeel's in County Down but none that have Adairs, Stitts and McElroys nearby.
The Stitt name dies out in Mourne in the late 1800s as far as I can see.
