Our first ancestor that came to America was Samuel Stitt.Lloyd Stitt typed some information to our Grandparents (Bob and Mable) in 1972. Lloyd typed that Samuel was the youngest of three children. He said that Samuel was born in Dumfries or Dumfrieshire, Scotland http://www.dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk/onhttp://www.dumfries-and-galloway.co.uk/on Nov. 27 1836 (but I know that this is incorrect). He was born to William and Agnus Stitt, both from Dumfries(I have not been able to verify that these are Samuel's parents. This is where I'm stuck).Samuel's grave marker says November 28, 1825. I believe that the grave marker is correct because his age at his death was 67 (stomach cancer). Also,he was 54 years old when the 1880 census was taken and wife was 52 years old. Samuel spent his earlier childhood in England and Ireland and his earlier manhood in Canada and the Eastern States.
- arrived in San Francisco in 1853 ( He would have been about 28 years old) - married Anna Kerr on June 30,1859 ( Samuel was about 34 years old, Ann or Anna was about 30 years old ) Anne was born on April 13, 1829 in Enniskillen,Scotland and died in Napa,ca on Ja. 28,1907.
