My father, who was from Rutland, Vt. and also a journalist, had educated me about Robert. Robert was a legend in Rutland as he was a cub reporter there and left an indelible impression. The stories about Robert stayed in Rutland, and when my father got his first job at the Rutland Herald, it was because of having the St. John surname.
My father subsequently made a good impression and as a result removed to a newspaper in NYC, which led me to being the first St. John in my lineage to not being born in New England since Matthias.
Here's to journalism and its ability to "move" people!
