Stockdale in China?
I have a Chinese export silver beaker in my collection (dating from around 1880 or earlier) which has been engraved with an (Federal) eagle with outspread wings with one leg resting on a shield and the motto "His Vicimus Armis". I understand that this is the family motto of the Stockdale family. I would like to find more about the history of this beaker. Was there a Stockdale who lived in China or was involved in the China trade? Does the Motto in combination with the eagle ring any bells? I have a very good photo of the engraving which I can forward via e-mail.
