Kerry, I am a great-great-grandson of Lars Stole and his first wife Anna, who died at sea on their voyage to America in 1878.
Lars has been one of my most stubborn "brick walls" for the last 23 years, until yesterday, when someone began helping me with the line. I am in the process of adding new data and changing some existing assumptions and haven't quite worked it all out yet, so bear that in mind as you have a look at what I have. Basically, my grandmother, Luella Larson, had no idea of Lars' children, save for her father, who called himself Otis Larson, but was a son (probably the first) of Lars Stole. She also had a different spelling of the name: Stolle, with an umlautt for the "o". Anyway, you can see what little I had until now at: http://members.cox.net/garyrea/pafg08.htm#102http://members.cox.net/garyrea/pafg08.htm#102
Most of the new data says Lars was born in Norway, so I'm revising things as I go. My grandmother had, in her notes, which my Dad passed on to me, that Lars was born in Malmo, Sweden. But, there are several discrepencies and much missing data I have to correct/add before I'll be ready to upload the new data.
It appears Lars must have had three wives, if you have a Siri Rabben as his wife. After he settled in Illinois, he married a Betsey Thompson. My grandmother said that his second wife had moved away upon his death, leaving his grave without a marker. That would have been in August 1890. When did Siri marry Lars? It may be she was the one who left his grave unmarked. I had assumed it was Betsey, as I hadn't heard of another wife.
