Stonecypher/Hawkins
I suspect a Stonecypher/Hawkins relationship and wonder if anyone has information that may help. When Matthew Hawkins and Nancy (Hall)Brasel (they had come up from SC) bought land from Charles McClung in Anderson Co., TN. on the same day, 18 April 1809, Michael Stonecypher signed Matthew Hawkins' land purchase and Matthew Hawkins signed signed Nancy Hall's purchase. Daniel Stonecypher signed "widow Margaret Hawkins" land purchase when they went to SC, where they went in the early 1790's out of NC. Edward Hawkins signed Daniel Stonecypher's land purchase in Washington District, SC. Margaret (widow) Hawkins left land to Edward Hawkins in SC. Edward is a son of Matthew Hawkins. As for the Halls and Brasels - (James Brasel and Nancy Hall Brasel) John Brasel m Rhoda Stonecypher 15 July 1811, Roane Co., TN. Obedience Brasel m Daniel Stonecypher and Elizabeth Brasel m Benjamin Stonecypher.
Could Margaret have been a Stonecypher? Does anyone have any information on a Margaret, that could have been a Stonecypher, that would have been born about 1750? I find Margaret Hawkins first as a widow, Margaret Hawkins, with five young females in Brown's district, NC in 1780's. Then she went down to Greenville, SC early in the 1790's and lives on land she purchased on the south side of the Pacolet River. She disappears about 1797and Edward turns up with her land selling it 1799 and it is in the land transfer that it was "left" to Edward Hawkins by Margaret Hawkins. I question if she could have been the wife of Aaron Hawkins, who is a brother of Matthew Hawkins, because Matthew is with him in tax and militia lists until he disappears and Margaret appears. Matthew is then found nearby (adjacent land) to Margaret until she dies.
Joseph Hawkins, son of Nathan Hawkins and Ruth Cole, m Esther Davis and they had a daughter Elizabeth that married Solomon Stonecypher. This was after all the connecting in Wilkes Co. NC and on the Pacolate River in SC (Greenville).
The above mentioned Matthew and Aaron Hawkins are brothers of Joseph Hawkins, sons of Nathan Hawkins and Ruth Cole.
I am chasing ghosts, thanks for any help, Jeanne
