m. 2. Jeremiah Newby, 22 Feb 1844, Clinton Co., Mo.
19. James Stonum, b. abt. 1827, Tennessee
m. Malissa, aft. 1847 (unsure about this)
My direct line is through Elizabeth Stonum #10 above.
I found info on the Missouri branch of the family through a will of Susannah (Stonum) Sampson #9 above. Susannah had a troubled marriage and no children. Upon her death in Nov 1841, she left all of her plantation and property to her neices and nephews, which included all of the children of her brother, George Norise Stonum #12 above and his sister, Elizabeth Stonum (my direct line) #10 above.
The will was contested and there was quite a bit of information because of the size of the estate. The Missouri Stonums sent two family members to Virginia to receive their portion of the estate, the Powers of Attorney explicitly state a number of the relationships listed above.
I followed up with some research on the Missouri Stonums, but because they are not my direct line I didn't continue down that path too far.
I also have more info on some of the maternal lines going back. The Norris line may tie into a line that pushes back to the 1500s. The Phillips line I have a little info on, not a great deal.
Let me knmow if you would like any more information.
Sincerely,
Kimball Carter
