I'm looking for information on Emily M. Stow(e) who married Lory Belden/Belding in Rocky Hill on February 11, 1835.Emily was born around 1815, I believe, in Rocky Hill.In 1820, I can find in the census three Stows, all from the same family - Ebenezer Stow and his two sons, Enos and Solomon. In that census, both Solomon and Enos list in their households girls who could be Emily.Solomon has a daughter Cornelia who was born in 1817.Enos lists in his household himself, a woman aged 16 to 26, presumably his wife, and a girl under 10, who I believe is Emily.
In the 1830 census, Ebenezer (d. early 1830), his wife Ruth (d. 1826), and his son Enos (d. 1822), have all passed on.Solomon Stow has moved his family to Southington where he would make quite a success of himself in manufacturing.Left in the Wethersfield/Rocky Hill area are Ursula Stow, daughter of Ebenezer and two other women over age 30 in her household (also daughters of Ebenezer?) and Mary Ann Stow, who lists a woman between 30 and 40 (herself), a girl between 5 and 10, and a girl between 10 and 15.I believe Mary Ann Stow is Enos's widow, the girl between 10 and 15 is Emily, and the girl between 5 and 10 is Emily's younger sister.
Does anybody know anything about this family?I can find quite a bit of genealogical work on Solomon and his father Ebenezer, but nothing much on Enos, other than birth and death dates.(Enos is listed as being born either July 25 or August 29, 1790, and dying September 19, 1822.)There is no record that I can find of who Enos married or that he had any children and, as far as I can tell, nobody has theorized that Emily is Enos's daughter, but looking around Rocky Hill/Wethersfield at the time, I see no other reasonable candidate for Emily's father.I'm moderately convinced of my thesis, but I'm curious if anyone has any information on Mary Ann Stow (maiden name, for example) or any other information on Enos Stow's family.
