I come from a line of the family that changed their name to Straughan.Lancelot Straughan was born in England (about 1672)to Alexander and Catherine Strachan (both born in Scotland) according to the reports I've been able to hunt down. The next generation changed the spelling to Strawn when the moved to the US right around the turn of the century (conflicting reports about when and how Lancelot arrived in the United States). The information I have goes back to an Alexander Strachan (b. abt. 1624) married to Margaret Booth (b. abt. 1630).Their child (named Alexander, of course) was born in Kincardine, Kincardineshire, Scotland (which seems to be pretty common, too, of course.) If anyone has information about this couple I would appreciate your insight.Without a trip to Scotland, I'm afraid I may be at a stand-still in this line of research.
