I'm the great grandson of Paul Klatte From Pequot Historical Society: First Hotel built in Pequot was built in 1889 by Walter Brown (Actual founder of Pequot) soon after the hotel was built it became known as the Commercial Hotel. In 1901 the hotel was owned by Paul Klatte.
In 1905 Paul Klatte sold the hotel to William and Bertha Strasburg. After William bought it he changed it to the Pequot Hotel, they owned it from 1905 to 1907. After that they sold it. The hotel changed many hands and eventually reverted back to Commercial Hotel.
By 1943 the hotel was disassembled and the lumber was used to erect buildings on land in Cullen Lake owned by the last owner Ludwig Mathison. May look into this to see if any of this lumber is still standing.
Paul Klatte was one of the first members of the city council 1902.I have photos from a newspaper that shows members of the first city council that includes Paul Klatte. Also in the same paper shows the Klatte hotel.
