I recently found this information in the Caldwell County, KY courthouse. Marriage Bond Be it known, that we, L. J. Strawn as principal, and T. A. Lowey (Lowery?) as surety, are jointly and severally bound to the Commonwealth of Kenrucky, in the sum of One Hundred Dollars. The Condition of this Bond is as Follows: That, whereas marriage is intended to be solemnized between the above bound L. J. Strawn and Miss Sarah B. Strawmat. Now, if there is no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage, this bond shall be void, otherwise it shall remain in full force and effect. Dated at Princeton, Caldwell County, this 19th day of April 1866. (signed by) L. J Strawn & T. A. Lowey (Lowrey?)
On the second page it gives this information: Date of marriage: (blank) Name of groom, L. J. Strawn Residence of groom, Caldwell County Age of groom, 26 years No. of marriage of groom, 1 Occupation, Engineer Birth-place of groom, Cobb County, GA Birth-place of groom's father, Georgia Birth-place of groom's mother, North Carolina
The bride was Sarah. B. Strawmatt, Caldwell County, age 16, first marriage, birth place Caldwell County, b.place of father and mother Caldwell County.
The place of marriage is blank. Signed L. J. Strawn, dated 19 April, 1866
Also found is the marriage bond for Jonathan E. Stevens and Mary E. Strawn.
"This is to sertify that we are willing for a marriage to take place between our daughter Mary E. Strawn & J. E. Stevens so that the clerk of the Caldwell County Court may grant licens to that affect. Given under our hands this 5 day of July 1869". This note is signed by Littleton Strawn and Prudence Strawn. Witnessed by S. B Kilgore and M. L. Workman. It gives the age of Mary Strawn as 20 years, 1st marriage, birthplace of bride as TN and birthplace of bride's father and mother as TN.
I believe that L. J. Strawn and Mary Strawn were brother and sister even though they give different birthplaces for their parents. Correct me if I'm wrong.
L. J. Strawn also signed as surety on a marriage bond for Thomas O. Hagood and Sarah J. Workman in Caldwell County 25 Dec. 1869. The Hagood, Strawn and Workman families appear to have moved together from GA to AL to KY and some went on to TX. If anyone can give me any information linking these families I would appreciate it. I am primarily researching Workman.
