Hi Helen, I was so very excited to hear from you.My sisters and I had about given up on finding out anything about the Strickland side.I would appreciate anything you are willing to share.I have so many questions I don’t know what to ask first. After I got your reply I tried again to look the family up on the censuses. The only one I have found was Abel and Martha on the 1850 census. But now with your help I have more information to work with. This is what I had on the family. The Strickland and Stricklin spellings have changed back and forth depending on what document you are looking at.My grandparents always used Strickland as did their children. But, on their tombstones it says Sticklin.I have obituaries for Rufus, Nannie, Claude, Some pictures of them, I even have a copy of the marriage license for Rufus and Nannie, at least the one we think it is. But the spelling there was Strickling and it said they got married in 1916.From the dates on the census and the year their first child was born they got married in 1912.
I looked up the Palmetto Genealogical Association page.It is a great page and if there is any way I can volunteer from Florida I will be more than happy to do it. I just joined the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society where most sides of my family were from, Whittle, Corley, Day, Rish, Berry, and Matthews.I am looking forward to getting to South Carolina and visiting some of the cemeteries, churches and areas the family came from.I would like to join the Palmetto Association too. I will be more than happy to send anything I have to add.
I have one Uncle (Otis) still living, He is 83 and if you have any questions I can’t answer on our side he may know the answer.
The 1900 census showed T Strickland living next door to his children.
All I had for Thomas and Victoria were their names so anything you can share about them, their siblings etc. I would love to have.I didn’t have the names of some of their children.
