Thank you for the name of Jessie's other husband.I wondered what had happened to her.But I was in for a surprise when I went to look for her marriage record.Ancestry.com now has Missouri marriage records from 1805 to 2002 online (by subscription), and these have been a great boon to my Missouri research.
I did not find a marriage for Jessie STROUP, but I did find one for a Charles B. MERCER and Jessie A. CLEMENS on 18 Jul 1913 in Jefferson Co., MO.I then looked further and found a marriage record for Samuel L. CLEMENS (age 34) & Jessie STROUP (age 24) on 19 Aug 1904 in Jefferson Co., MO.The reason I hadn't found that marriage earlier is that Jessie is mis-indexed as "STROUF."
I wonder if this Samuel L. CLEMENS (b. 1869/70) is related to Samuel Langhorne CLEMENS (1835-1910), a.k.a., Mark TWAIN?He can't be descended from the writer because his only son died at the age of two, but he could be a cousin. On the other hand, Mark TWAIN was immensely popular, so this Samuel L. might have just been named in honor of him.
I found an entry in the SSDI for Jessie A. MERCER, born 11 Mar 1880 and died 15 Jul 1966, last residence St. Louis, MO.Do you think this could be Jessie (nee HORINE) MERCER?
