I have been looking for a friend's great-grandfather, Alvin Strube of Iowa, and came across this information on the Iowa genweb site from 'History of Clayton County, Iowa, 1882, p. 1127:"Volga Twp. - Rudolph C. Strube, blacksmith and general repairer, East Elkport, was born in Clayton County, IA, March 30, 1856, son of John H. and Christina (Eberhardt) Strube, who were natives of Germany, and came to American in 1848, and settled in Clayton County."The entry continues with more information about Rudolph, and you can see the rest on Iowa genweb.I've also found the family in the 1870 census for Jefferson, Clayton, IA and Bruno was 6 at the time. His sister's name is Christina, the same as his mother.(Guttenberg is in the Jefferson township.)The 1880 census also has the family in Jefferson, when Bruno was 16.Unfortunately for my friend, it doesn't look like Bruno's brother Alvin is her ancestor, but I hope the info helps you out.
