Arcada Sturgis mentioned in the John Sturgis Will in Sangamon County, Illinois has been found.
Arcada Sturgis was born 28 February 1802 in York County, South Carolina and died 1 January 1892 in Hancock County, Illinois.Arcada married James Boman (also shown as James Bowman in early records) 1825 in Sangamon County, Illinois. James Bowman was born 10 August 1803 in Georgia and died 29 May 1886 in Hancock County, Illinois. They were both buried in Rosemont Cemetery in Hancock County.
The couple had 11 children:
Ezekiel K. Boman born 13 April 1826 John Wright Boman born ca 1828 William Sturgis Boman born 11 May 1829 Melinda J. Boman born 18 December 1830 James Barton Boman born 5 April 1833 (suspected to be Bratton a family name) Ralph M. Boman born 9 October 1835 Benjamin R. Boman born 1837 Andrew J. Boman born January 1840 Margaret Ann Boman born 1842 Arcada E. Boman born ca 1845
Some members of the family moved to Allen County, Kansas and Neosho County, Kansas.
Now believe that the remaining Sturgis daughter, Jane Bratton Sturgis born ca 1790 in York County, South Carolina, may have been the wife of William Pate who was seen in the 1830 Sangamon County, Illinois census. There was a son William Riley Pate born about 1808 in Tennessee. The John Sturgis family also resided in Tennessee by 1811, when a Sturgis son was born in Blount County. At present we cannot prove that Jane Bratton Sturgis married William Pate; however, we know that she was married to a Pate from her father's will mentioned above. William Pate was the only known Pate living in Sangamon County from at least 1827.Could use some help on this one.
