Please do not apologize, none of us knows it all!Isn't that why we have these Forums?
Thank you for the wonderful additional information on Ed & Lucille. We were not even aware of Amy Lee or Yachtney!
In looking through all of our notes, we can see that our data on this branch of the Sugg was "frozen in time" ca. 1970, with the addition of the few obituaries in the eighties.Just for "deep" background, you should become familiar with Sue Sugg Piant; she and our Uncle W. J. (Wm. J. Sugg Jr. DDS) did extensive research on the Suggs of Dickson County - her manuscript of 1970 is often cited.Just a short excerpt from our notes for everyone's benefit:
"The original hand written images of the following can be found in the DFT Photo Gallery under (L)etters - the source was Nancy Sugg Motsinger Banks at Birmingham, Alabama, daughter of the Helen mentioned; they descend from Thomas Dallas Sugg, son of Uncle Ruff.
* Letter from Mrs. Robert L. Piant, 9040 S. W. Terrace, Miami, Florida 33156 - Dated August 22, 1970 Note: Sue Sugg Piant descends from John Daniel Sugg and Carrie Jane Springer ... however ... Carrie's first husband was Judge G. W. Humble, and she is the "Grandma Humble" in the following. W. J. is the oldest son of Dr. Wm. Jesse, and grandson of Nathaniel Rufus, "Uncle Ruff"
"Dear Martha & W. J.,
"You don't know how pleased I was to get your letter. It adds a great deal of information to our family chart which I must now begin revising.
"Martha, I hope that Helen Motsinger [mother of Nancy, source of these documents] will be able to give you her family.I have had a letter from Georgia B. Freeman, daughter of Billie Sugg. *?* She has helped add names to the chart of William H. (Harbert), our grandfathers' oldest brother"."
*?* The only "Billie Sugg" known in the whole of our Clan in Dickson was the son of Edward. However ...... upon close examination, it is obvious that a daughter of Edward would not have been old enough to be married in 1970!!!
We were then swayed by the picture of the young girl we have attached to our Georgia, only known as "unknown daughter" of our Billie. Can you verify that this would have to be Amy Lee?Was Yachtney another daughter??
And then, the only other Billie Sugg found in recent times has been one William Wade Sugg who lives down on the Dickson/Hickman border. We are not aware he had any children.
All in all .... either Sue Piant slipped in the mention of the father of Mrs. Georgia B. Freeman, or there is a previously unknown Billie Sugg in our Clan.(There was an elaborate scheme of Willies and Billies to take all the Williams into account; just for example, notice how the son of "Billie" (Wm. M.) was referred to as Marshall - there is a deep tradition in the Sugg for using middle names on an every day basis - for the girls as well as the boys).
Almost forgot: our copies of the obituaries (with no dates) for Ed and Lucille note that she died at the age of 77 and that "Graveside services will be held Sunday afternoon, March 20th ... etc."Does this make her death in March 1988?
