My apologies for not adding to the previous message.
I believe there may have been another Thomas Summerell between Thomas (#1) that married Ann Cobb and the Thomas Summerell of 1700s Pitt County.I have seen the birth year (1680, b Scotland)for Thomas #1 posted on the internet and in other places including the book by James Hines; however, have not seen a published reference for this date.Does anyone have this reference? My probable line is: Generation Thomas Summerell, Sr of Pitt Co NC(This could be Thomas #1 or another Thomas, but birth year of 1680 is unlikely.this Pitt County Thomas Summerell is listed with son Thomas Jr. as chainbearers with a land transfer in 1782 Pitt County. i. Henry Summerell of Bertie/Craven Co NC b ca 1735 ii. Matthew Summerell, b ca 1737 iii. Thomas Summerell, Jr, b ca 1739, d abt 1800; = Martha "Patsy" ?, d aft 1810(Thomas Summerill aka Summerlin Sr, and Thomas Jr and children Frederick and Jemina are documented in land and estate records of Pitt Co NC.) (Patsy and son Frederick appear numerous times in the Pitt Co NC census) i.Frederick Summerlin of Pitt Co NC i.Jemina Summerell; = Thomas Spain iv.Edward Summerll, aka Simmerill, b ca 1740, d ca 1790, was noted numerous times in Beaufort Co NC estate and census records. v. Jacob Summerell(akaSummerlin&Summerling) , b ca 1742= Charity Glisson, d/o Dennis & Mary Glisson of Sampson/Duplin Co NC (documented in will of Charity's brother Jacob Glisson) vi. Jesse Summerling, b ca 1744; = ? Mary Glisson, (also d/o Dennis & Mary Glisson) ( Jesse dies before 1786 as his wife is listed in the Duplin Co NC Court of Pleas as Mary Summerling and having "three suffering orphans")
