The Supplee/Suplees in the Philadelphia area all come from a common ancestor - Andris Souplis. He was French, probably of noble birth, successful in the cloth trade, and in his early 40s a military officer. As a Huguenot (Protestant), he led a group of fellow Huguenots out of France when such Protestants were being killed in a pogrom. He went to the Holland/Germany border area. In Krefeld, Germany he learns about the newly established Pennsylvania colony. He ends up in the area of Philadelphia known as Germantown in 1684, eventually buys a large plantation in the Kingsessing area of west Philadelphia and dies in old age. His descendents spread out from Philly to Montgomery and Chester counties in the 18th and early 19th century and eventually westward.
