Perhaps you have hit the nail on the head. Louise I have been researching the Swaffer/Swaffar/Swafford/Swofford line for over 5 decades though Ireland, Wales, Scottland and England. My ggg-grandfather; Jacob Swafford, born 1762 in Greenville Cty., SC., USA. He was the oldest of eight brothers. For years I have been trying to confirm the origins of their parents; James [Peter] Swafford and Rennie Howard. My cousins and I have almost all the records back to 1762 with the birth of my ggg-grandfather. I have been unable to locate information of their parents imigration to North America. It might interest you to know that on the 1880 census for White County, AR, USA my g-grandfather Larkin Franklin Swaffer [Swafford] spelled his name the same way you do. Because I have been able to confirm the use of seven different spellings of the name in North America, I have focused on Swafford as the most used. I would love to share with you and am most interested in the information you have.
