52nd Annual Swango Reunion
We are pleased to announce that the 52nd Annual Swango Reunion will be held at the spacious, air conditioned Activity Center located at Natural Bridge State Park in Slade, Kentucky on August 6-8.The theme for this year's gathering is "Celebrating Our Mountain Heritage."
We encourage everyone to come dressed as your favorite ancestor or historical character for the Saturday evening dinner.If you are more comfortable in present day garb that's OK too.Just come and be part of the fun.
There will be at least six special heritage demonstrations to view illustrating how our ancestors went about their daily chores including:Quilt Making, Spinning Wheel, Music (Mandolin, Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo), Soap Making, Oak Basket Weaving and Cane Carving.
Other features will include the Stoney Creek Cloggers of Bull Gap, TN. & the Hoedown Cloggers of Slade, KY:A candle-light ceremony to celebrate those relatives who passed in 2004; An Action Auction with a comic twist; the annual Saturday evening dinner; special genealogy charts and displays; a Sunday service in the original church built in 1836 on land donated by Swangos; and much more.
