I have just reviewed the will of William Swift of Caswell County, NC. and something "new" just struck me in that will which I had notfocused upon previously. In the first part of the will, William mentions all of this children and the legacy each is to receive from him.In the latter part of the will, he makes note that his "beloved wife, Frances Swift, during her natural life all the balance of my estate and after her decease to be equally divided among her Children as follows to wit: my sons, John Swift, Thomas Swift, Anthony Swift, Richard Swift, William Park Swift, George Alexander Swift, my Daughters, Susanna Harris and Frances Swift to their Heirs or Assigns forever. Two notable exceptions from the list of his children in the first part of the will is Sarah Swift Williamson and Mary Swift George. When I checked on the marriage date of Mary Swift to James George, it is given as 25 November 1767.William and Frances Waddy were married 30 December 1756, also in Goochland. If Mary were a daughter of Frances Waddy, she would have been marrying at the age of 10 or 11 years of age in 1767, which seems highly unlikely to me.One of the two eldest daughters of Mary and James George is Mary Watts Swift.I wonder is this is a clue as to the name of Mary's mother. The other elder daughters was named Elizabeth.
I have not been able to ascertain the marriage date for Sarah and Nathaniel Williamson, but she is dead by 1839, when Nathaniel's will is probated. But it does seem strange that William did not name Sarah as a daughter of Frances Waddy Swift.
I would like to hear from some of you who are descendants of these two women.
