Van Avery Swindelle -Savannah- Van Avery 'Doc' Swindelle, CMSgt, USAF, Retired, "Doc", 85, of Savannah, died Monday, Jan 22, 2007 at Hospice Savannah, Inc. He was born in Timmonsville, S.C., and was preceded in death by his wife, Lily White Swindelle, and daughters, June Knowles and Charlene Keebler. He retired from the US Air Force after 26 years of service having served as NCOIC of Maintenance. Upon retirement was employed by Gulfstream Aerospace for 15 years. He was a lifetime member of Bull St. Baptist Church, member of the Keystone Sunday School Class, member of AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics), and enjoyed a life long passion with building and flying radio controlled airplanes. He is survived by a son and daughter in law, Roy & Martha Swindell of Savannah, Ga; a sister, Corinne Jerome, Savannah, Ga; 2 grandchildren, Valerie Paul and Curtis Knowles. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home. Funeral Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at Bull Street Baptist Church, with Rev. Earnie Pirkle, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with Full Military Honors. Remembrances may be sent to either Bull St. Baptist Church or Hospice Savannah, Inc.
