I'm looking for information about two individuals, a father & daughter. Phoebe Ann Sweeney b. 1869 in Lincoln County, KY who married Marion Robert Reynolds (b. July 1866, d. Jan 1930) and had children Clara Elizabeth b. May 1887, Ott Lee b. Aug 1892, and Ada Mae b. Mar 12, 1890. I'm assuming that Phoebe died before 1899 because Marion Reynolds married Emily Hayes on June 1, 1899.
Phoebe's father was Samuel Swinney b. July 1835 d. unknown. He married Clara Cummins b. 1842 d. unknown on Aug 13, 1859 in Lincoln/Rockcastle Co., KY (the counties split around this time and records from then are a bit odd). Aside from Phoebe, they had Mary b. 1861, Martha J b. 1863, William P b. Dec 1865 (m. Elizabeth ? in 1886), Minnie F b. 1866, Cynthia E b. 1873, and John M b. 1876.
I am not entirely sure why the surname's spelling changed from Swinney to Sweeney, but I distinctly remember that censuses did not always spell the name exactly the same but the families were the same. Anyone have ideas why the spelling changed? Thanks, Matt
