Thanks for the help John. I agree, from what i've seen it does seem to be a Germanic name. my Dad said it was Dutch but my grandma said the family came from Ireland. I always assumed she meant her family (Burns). From what I've foundthere are many variations on Swint from germany to England all having to do with pigs or in some cases boars. I find it exceedingly strange though, that my family crest is the same as the mcsweeney crest. I cant help but wonder if an expatriate group of irish. Finding themselves in a foreign land might have adopted a local name that, given the odd spellings I've found of both names, wasnt all that different from their own. Especially if you drop the "mc" which I understand many families did to hide their catholic background. It's a little bit of a mystery, but that's the best part of digging into the past. Thanks again.
