Tailby family

Hi Eileen
Good to hear from you. I did know that Jane Tailby lived with a Richard Anderson, and I had heard that they had three children together but didn't know their names - now I do, thanks to you! We have a mystery here actually, because Arthur died in 1904, leaving everything to Jane - a large house and quite a bit of money (I have a copy of Arthur's will.) He cut his eldest son (from his first marriage to Emma Pritchard) out of his will the day before he died.
The next we hear of Jane a few years later is that she has turned up in the poorest part of Eastbourne with this Richard Anderson (I've got a note of the year somewhere, I'll dig it out). My gran, Josie Tailby (Bob's daughter and your cousin, I guess - did you know her at all?) used to tell me that there was a tale of someone taking all the Tailby money and losing it, possible abroad - Holland maybe. Have you heard of this?
Your father must have been about 41 when he married? I don't have his full date of birth on my tree, would you be able to clarify this for me? What was your mother's maiden name? Also, was your father known as Jack, as that's what my gran told me in the mid-1990s?
Sidney Harris Tailby - well we had quite a trawl with this one, and it all became very confused as there were in fact TWO Sidney Harris Tailbys.
Arthur Tailby (our mutual ancestor) had a brother George born 1852, Marylebone. George married a Marion TAILBY (yes! Tailby! - we're still looking into this)and they had a son, Sidney Harris Tailby born Barnes, 17 Mar 1885. Sidney married Ada Davy and they had a daughter Ada May Tailby. She married Gordon Arthur and Ray Arthur is their son. (I'm sure you wil hear from Ray soon.)
The other Sidney Harris Tailby was our Arthur Tailby's second son from his marriage to Emma Pritchard. He was born 2.11.1877 in Islington and died at the young age of 23 in Barnet, (where Arthur Tailby lived.)
The name Harris crops up quite often as a middle name so we're all keeping our eyes out for where this originates from.
As for Angie Tailby - Angie is married to Rod Tailby, and they live in New Zealand. Rod's father was Dudley Arthus Tailby (b. Barnet 18.7.1908) who married May Rhoda Holland of San Paulo. Dudley's father was Arthur George Tailby (b. 1876, St. Pancras) who married Violet Elizabeth Smith. Arthur's father was our Arthur Tailby's eldest son from his first marriage to Emma Pritchard. Angie may also contact you!
That's probably enough to be going on with but I look forward to hearing more from your side. As I said in my email, do give me a call sometime.
Best wishes
Michele
