I am looking for info about the TAIT family of Edinburgh, who in about 1909 fostered a Liverpool child called MARYARNOLD.I would like to know what relationship the Taits had with her family, when they agreed to look after her for a period of 9 or 10 years. The Taits were JOHN WILSON TAIT(b. 21 March 1880 in Glasgow) and his wifeISABELLA MARY TAIT(nee HARRIS), who were married in Rugby on 1 Jan 1907.They possibly had two daughters, one of whom was ANN ELSDEN TAIT (b. 13 Nov 1907).Ann and Mary became close friends. In later life, Ann married an artist and moved to Vienna with him. Her married name wasANN HIF- TZINGER. John Tait was an assessor of losses for an Edinburgh firm called James Thomson and Co., Surveyors, and later became self-employed.His addresses included3 Rustic Cottages, Colinton, Edinburgh, and 3 Ann Street, Edinburgh. Subsequently he moved to Musselburgh nearby, and then possibly to London. Mary Arnold (b. 1906) was the illegitimate daughter of John Sampson and Gladys Maud Imlach.GMI was born in 1880 and was a schoolteacher who taught my mother. Mary lived with the Taits until she was 13, when she came back to Liverpool to live with her mother.GMI died in her 50s, and one of the trustees of her will was John Tait.Mary had an uncle in Edinburgh….Prof. Ralph Sampson.Mary used to visit his family and she got on well with them.GMI had Scottish relatives (the CALVERT family). I am wondering how the Taits got to know Mary's parents. I would love to hear from anyone who has any knowledge about their relationship. JohnHollins,Nottingham, UK.
