I was always told that the name Talarico is derived from Alaric (in Italy "Alarico") the Great, King of he Visogoths. Alaric sacked Rome around 410 AD then headed to Cosenza for a planned invasion of Sicily.
Unfortunately for Alaric he contracted malaria and died. He was buried in the river bed of the Crati and Brusento rivers in the town of Cosenza. His relatives stayed put and eventually changed the name to Talarico.
